Gxulumanzi Volunteer Program
Are you looking for a way to reconnect with nature, learn new skills and play a part in conserving our natural environment? If so, you might be interested in joining the Gxulumanzi volunteer program.
The Gxulumanzi Volunteer program offer volunteers the opportunity to assist with an unique conversation program on the coast of the Eastern Cape. It covers various topics including the conservation and rehabilition of the Gxulu estuary and coastline, vulnerable coastal dune forest and valley thicket.
Come join our team who are dedicated to protecting and enhancing our natural habitats. Interact with local communities and fellow volunteers from diverse backgrounds. Develop leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a dynamic setting.



















What will you learn?
Invasive species: identifying and eradicating invasive alien plants that threaten the native biodiversity and ecosystems, as well as preventing the spread of invasive species and restoring the natural habitat.
Reforesting: Assist with propagating seeds and planting seedlings to rehabilitate degraded areas of forest.
Sustainability: Learn about all things sustainability. Help out in the organic garden and pick your own fresh vegetables. Learn about solar power, rain water harvesting and recycling.
Community programmes: Learn and help out with the various community programmes Gxulumanzi supports and collaborates with. Kidlinks Small Farm Incubator is one of the programmes we currently assist with, it is a project that empowers young farmers with skills and resources.
Estuary: learn about the estuary ecosystem, a transition zone between fresh water and salt water where rivers meet the sea, as well as the theory and practical aspects of estuary management, conservation and restoration.
Foraging: Get involved in the fun and educational activity of foraging for you own food on the shoreline. Learn how to identify, harvest and prepare your own meals free from the sea.
Wildlife monitoring and data collection: Set up and observe camera trap data to monitor wildlife populations. Get involved in citizen science projects such as birdlasser
Conservation: Help out with the various conservation projects at Gxulumanzi and help protect our natural world. Learn about the land stewardship programme, a community-based initiative that aims to conserve the fauna and flora of the Eastern Cape.
Accommodation
Volunteers will stay at the Kingfishers property
