Kingfishers
Named after the many different types of kingfisher birds that live in the area, our Kingfishers cottage is the base for our immersive Volunteer program.
There is a lovely outdoor area which looks over the road to the estuary. And let’s not forget the night sky – on a clear evening the stars are quite spectacular.
Cottage
The cottage is nestled in nature, surrounded by trees, birds and often visited by vervet monkeys.
Towards the top of the property is our organic medicinal herb and vegetable garden, where you can learn about growing veggies and even pick your own herbs. This is also where we make use of any residual waste to produce compost and for our worms to produce vermicompost.
The cottage has a small quirky outdoor functions venue 'The Bird Bar' - where you can watch garden birds while enjoying a meal. Kingfisher cottage sleeps eight people and is open to bookings for our Volunteer program.
Activities
The Mgwenyana flood plain with a wonderful array of birdlife can be accessed on foot from the cottage. There are four km of paths to explore through the forest and valley. The flood plain also opens to a private game reserve and you may be lucky to see giraffe, nyala, impala and waterbuck.
For the more energetic, canoe or SUP to the beach or into the lagoon and up the Gxulu River to mShumani and picnic or explore the surrounds.

Powr Nutrients
Kingfishers is also home to our Powr Nutrients daikon radish farm where we grow and produce the ultimate power nutrient, Freeze-dried + Blended Daikon Radish Seeds.
The seeds are a great source of a compound known as glucoraphenin, which, when eaten, releases sulforaphene. This powerful bioactive molecule can switch on self-defense mechanisms in the body, reducing inflammation and toxins. The health benefits can be felt throughout the body, and is even linked to anti-cancer properties.
